Man admits attacking girlfriend with cricket bat
A St. George's man admitted to attacking his girlfriend with a cricket bat.
Desmond Crockwell, of Bay Estates Road, was charged with unlawfully wounding his girlfriend whom he shared an apartment and child with.
Magistrates' Court heard from prosecutor Paula Tyndale that the complainant and defendant had a verbal dispute before they left the residence on March 16.
When they returned, they had another argument outside of the house.
Crockwell took the complainant's keys, opened the door of the apartment, took the child and locked the complainant outside.
Ms Tyndale said the complainant knocked on the door persistently but the 29-year-old would not let her in.
She went around the side of the house to the bedroom window and tried to climb in but Crockwell gripped her arm causing her pain.
He then grabbed a cricket bat and hit her in the right eye causing the complainant to bleed. The complainant ran upstairs to Crockwell's family for help.
The following day, she reported the incident at the Police Station and the defendant was arrested.
Crockwell told the court: "It was an accident. I want to deal with it and move on." He explained he locked himself inside the apartment to avoid a fight.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and bailed Crockwell in the amount of $1,000.
