Martin's goal puts town in festive mood

A goal by forward Kris Martin after 53 minutes proved to be sufficient to give Dandy Town their second 1-0 win over Boulevard this season.

After a lacklustre first half which was dominated by Dandy Town, the St.

John's Road team finally broke the deadlock when Paul Cann raced down the right flank and combined with Walter Musson to enable the eager Martin to hammer the ball home from 14 yards from an angle on the left.

It was a lead that Dandy Town deserved because they were clearly the better team in the first half. In fact they underlined their supremacy during the first five minutes when they pinned down Boulevard and came close on two occasions with Carlos Smith putting a shot into the arms of goal-keeper Mitchell Steede and Cann doing likewise shortly afterwards.

Boulevard's only shot on target came after 30 minutes when Stevie Wade put a firm effort at goal-keeper Cymande Davis from 15 yards. Dandy Town finished off the half with Paul Cann firing over from just 15 yards.

Boulevard did not find their touch until they were a goal behind, and when they did come into the game they did so with great momentum.

For the first time the Dandy Town defence was forced to retreat and they had a scare after 55 minutes when Clinton Caisey drilled a fierce shot from 16 yards just over the bar.

During a quick counter attack Carlos Smith sent a strong drive at Steede from just inside the penalty box, but it was not long before Boulevard regained the initiative and advanced almost at will.

After 62 minutes young Davis showed his great ability by brilliantly tipping a curling corner by Vernon Symonds over the bar, then substitute Kenny Hill followed this up by placing a well-struck ball at Davis from just inside the box.

But true agony for Boulevard was to come after 86 minutes when Clinton Caisey ran onto a chipped ball from Dean Boyles and firmly headed it towards the goal only to see Davis dramatically tip the ball over for a corner to prevent what seemed to be a certain equaliser.
