Immigration dead end

Jason Hayward, the labour minister responsible for immigration (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,A news statement was released on August 31, 2020 by Jason Hayward in regards to the commencement date of the mixed-status families legislation for children born overseas to a Bermudian looking to officially gain Bermuda status. The new application documents for this was to be posted to the government immigration website on September 14 and to date — September 30, 2020 — there isn’t any reference to the new documents as stated by Mr Hayward.Since the proposed date of September 14, I have written two e-mails to the immigration office and telephoned leaving a voicemail. Still no reply on the requested information. If they are having an issue of some kind, finalising the documents or some other reason, it would be nice to have that posted on the webpage, as I’m sure I am not alone in this matter. Although my daughter was born in the United States, she has always considered herself a Bermudian, with most of our relatives residing in Bermuda. She is thrilled for this opportunity and is looking forward to completing the process to gain her status. EMERY MADEIROS JRWarwick, Rhode Island
