Adams has surgery on knee
surgery on his left knee on Tuesday afternoon.
But Adams, whose important saves in the second leg of the recent World Cup qualifier with Haiti enabled Bermuda to advance past the opening round for the first time, expects to be fit enough to play next weekend against Antigua in the first leg of their first-round tie.
Adams had revealed to The Royal Gazette while in Haiti recently that he was having trouble with his knee and that surgery might be needed to correct the problem.
"The doctor says I should be ready in two or three days so I'm taking his word for it,'' Adams said last evening while watching the Bermuda team train at the National Stadium. "Early next week I should be back out doing some physical.'' Adams said the knee gave him a bit of a problem after an early collision with a Haitian player. "But I was so focussed that I was getting bangs and it wasn't bothering me,'' he explained. "I was determined not to stop at that point.'' Adams discussed with his doctor when it would be best to have the operation and decided to go ahead with it this week.
Meanwhile, new faces have been included in the training squad, which is preparing for the upcoming matches with Antigua. Former captain Albert Smith, David Bascome and college students Corey Hill, Paul Cann, Damon Wade and Shannon Burgess all trained with the squad this week.
Smith was left out of the team for the second leg against Haiti after failing to show for the first match while Bascome is recovering well from a back injury, which kept him out of both matches against Haiti.
Hill boasts a good scoring record against Antigua, netting three of the five goals Bermuda put past them in their two meetings (2-2 and 3-0) two years ago at the National Stadium.
Another college student Neil Paynter is unavailable for the Antigua trip next week because of final exams at Old Dominion University.
BFA administrator Joe L. Brown was treated at the hospital emergency department yesterday afternoon after complaining of numbness, a hospital spokesperson said last night. Brown was discharged at about 5 p.m. yesterday.
