Thieves entered the unlocked room, taking a jewellery pouch along with $440 cash, credit cards, passports and personal papers.

A Police spokesman listed among the items stolen: a pink lustre pearl necklace with pearl ear rings; a gold necklace with dark green jade stones and white pearls and a solid gold egg coated with dark blue enamel on a gold chain.

Also taken was a gold ring with an opal stone and diamond and ruby cluster; a silver fish pendant in a chain with matching ear rings and a ladies gold "Seiko'' watch.

Police said the break-in took place between 12 p.m. and 6.45 a.m. on Wednesday.

In a separate incident, thieves stole a 26-inch colour television from Orange Valley School. The set was U-marked OVS.

FIRE INVESTIGATED FIR Fire investigated Firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire near the Little Lamb Nursery on King Street on Thursday.

The fire was confined to a 16-foot boat on blocks in the back yard of a Pembroke resident.

Two fire engines and ten men arrived at the scene after receiving a call at 3.20 a.m. But the flames were already extinguished on arrival, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation and foul play has not been ruled out.

Police confirmed inquiries are being made to determine whether an arsonist lit the fire which caused extensive damage to the boat.

Damage is estimated at $1,000.

SCHOOLBOY INJURED FIR Schoolboy injured A 12-year-old St. George's schoolboy needed hospital treatment for burns to his legs after an accident near his home.

Now Police have urged parents to drive home to their kids the dangers of fire, especially during the school break.

The incident occurred on Grape Bay Road at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Roseanda Jones said the circumstances were unclear.

But it was known some youngsters -- including the boy who was hurt -- had been playing near a bonfire.

She added the boy was "resting comfortably'' at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

CHEQUE WARNING CRM Cheque warning Shopkeepers and bank tellers have been put on the alert after cheques were stolen from a Roman Catholic Church.

The six Bank of Butterfield cheques -- numbered from 15328 to 15333 -- were taken from the church rectory on Tuesday.

"The thief or thieves also made off with an undisclosed amount of cash,'' said Police spokeswoman Sgt. Roseanda Jones. "If you have any information about this incident, contact Police immediately.'' BIKES RECOVERED CRM Bikes recovered Police dragged two stolen motor cycles from a watery grave off North Shore on Wednesday.

A Police spokesman said the cycles were recovered after they were discovered dumped in ten feet of water, 100 yards west of Admiralty House in Pembroke.

After making inquiries, Police confirmed the cycles were stolen.

YOUTH INJURED CRM Youth injured A youth was badly beaten up in Court Street -- because he ignored a man's demands for money.

The 20-year-old Smith's Parish man received a broken nose and severe bruising about his face.

But he managed to escape without handing over any cash.

Police say the incident occurred at about 5.45 p.m. on Tuesday.
