Sporting parents praised for youth scheme
by the Minister of Youth and Sport on Wednesday.
The Hon. Pamela Gordon , speaking in the Senate, said the parents had formed the programme because of reports that the US Naval Annex in Southampton -- which runs a large sports scheme -- would close.
A recent soccer competition organised under the programme had been won by the Express and Colts teams for the junior and senior sections respectively.
Sen. Gordon went on to praise Port Royal assistant golf professional Mr.
Dwayne Pearman, for his golfing triumph in the Belmont Invitational Championship at the Warwick course.
It had been a terrific achievement against stiff overseas opposition.
Government Senate leader the Hon. Michael Winfield called for a message of Christmas and New Year's greetings to be sent to the House of Assembly.
He also congratulated Sen. Wendell Hollis (UBP) and his wife on the birth of their daughter.
Opposition Senate leader Sen. Alex Scott expressed condolences over the death of Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Grant, a close relative of PLP Sen. Ira Philip .
He said Mrs. Grant had served the community for 30 years in the extended care ward.
Sen. Maxwell Burgess (UBP) praised the young people involved in the the play Danielle's Choice, directed by Mrs. Shangri-la Durham Thompson, director of drama for the AME Churches in Bermuda.
Senate President the Hon. Albert Jackson praised the promoters of the Child Aid Day event at City Hall on Wednesday.
