Bermuda Glass pulled out all the stops in their encounter with Pro Staff in the latest round with Doug Hinds leading them to a 16-4 win. Barbara Smith topped the women's scoring list with a 575 series to assist in the Bermuda Glass victory. For Pro Staff, Allan Thompson tried offsetting the challenge with a 562 with an assist from Millie Waldron's 212 women's high game and Bobby Ingham's second high series 535.
Get Togethers really got it together and went on to break up the Perfect Combination by a 15-5 win, led by Reggie Saunders' 609 series to tie for top men's honours. He also added the third game of 223 while Dudley Browne gave assistance with a 571 series and a 222 game.
Flagler Street Gang ganged up on a short-handed Us Until team and pulled off a 16-4 win with Miles Smith at the helm with a 565 series with Rosie Bean 530 series. Top scorer for Is Until was Sam Santucci with a 568.
East End Asphalt and Amflites battled it out with Amflites coming out slightly ahead with a 11-9 win. Amflites' challenge was led by Richard Zuill's 562 while Joe Correia added the men's second high game of 243 to their cause and June Pitt tied for the women's second high series 535 and added the second high game 204. Carlos Estravit led the pavers with a 572 series.
Terrible Four went after the Four Star Pizza team and did not give up until they had won 15-5. Perry Simons led the way with the men's third high series and top game, 580 and 246, as Sylvia O'Connor added a 535 series for a three way tie for second.
SOFTBALL SOF An incredible display of hitting took place at Bernard Park on Thursday evening in Division `D' of the Commercial Softball League as mid-table Butterfield & Steinhoff vented their frustrations on last-placed Docksiders.
The former exploded for a mindboggling 44 runs to just eight for Docksiders in one of the most lopsided results of the season.
Combining for a third of those runs was the trio of Steve Green, Trevor Brookes and Darren Budd who registered a total of 16 between them.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday second-placed Division `C' side Prison Officers dealt a harsh blow to International Risk Management's play-off chances when they came from seven runs down in the last inning to win.
With the score 11-4 Risk appeared to have things sewn up, but their oppoenents showed why they have already booked a play-off berth when they scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Carlton Fraser's game winning three-run homer.
In another Division `C' encounter Showbizz blasted Kempe & Whittle 13-4 behind perfect four-for-four hitting by Gary Knight and three hits from Bruce Leckie.
The winning pitcher was James Thomas, who gave up just seven hits on the night. Dave King took the loss.
Meanwhile, the nightcap saw Marsh & McLennan hammer a helpless Anfossi & Butterfield bunch 18-8, keeping alive their hopes of post-season competition.
POOL POO Craig Marks made his second consecutive perfect 50 to lead Swinging Doors to a 198-161 win over Robin Hood.
Doors clinched the league championship by a single win over Hamilton Parish as Dion Berkeley scored 43 for Doors and Robin Hood's high scorers were Clint Aitkens (38) and Freya Robinson (35).
Hamilton Parish maintained second place with a solid 220-157 win over the Bermuda Ladies, led by Dion Burgess (50), Richard Foggo (46), Michael Burgess (44) and Bobby Smith (41). Paula Madeiros scored 42 for the Ladies.
In a close match, Sandys Boat Club edged Queens 198-184, led by 47 points from Cliff Allison. Sandys captured the match despite 50 points from Greg Falzone and 47 from Trevir (Kidd) Mouchette.
GOLF GLF The fourth annual Easter Lily invitational Pro-Am for women returned to St.
George's Golf Club for the final round yesterday and saw second-round leaders Chaudiere Golf and Country Club of Canada hold on for a six-stroke victory over Winchester Golf and Country Club I with a net round of 48 for a total of 229.
Winchester, which wound up on 235 after carding a similar round of 48, trailed by six shots entering the day and were unable to make any ground on the leaders, but were still able to improve their own position as several other highly-placed clubs faltered.
Entering the day in second place, Team Moore struggled for a 53 to finish at 240, good for third overall.
Baltusrol walked away carrying the gross title on account of a 271, followed by Chaudiere (280) and Firewheel Country Club (283).
SOCCER SOC The Bermuda Football Association has announced three make-up matches for today.
In the Commercial Division, Spinning Wheel play Forties in a Group A fixture at 1 p.m. at White Hill field, and North Village Rams play St. George's All-Stars in Group B at Bernard Park (3 p.m.).
In the Alliance Division Group A, PHC entertain Devonshire Cougars at 3 p.m.
The Commercial Division Cup finals will be played today at BAA field with BAA Wanderers meeting Robin Hood in the Group A final at 3 p.m. Somerset Extros take on Devonshire Colts All-Stars in the Group B final at 1 p.m.
DARTS DRT The meeting for all persons interested in representing Bermuda in the World Cup during the month of October in Las Vegas will be held next Wednesday at National Sports Club at 8 p.m.
