Train ready to roll

Two 20-passenger trolley cars will be pulled by a red and green coloured replica of a Baldwin Locomotive and the entire train will begin to shuttle passengers around Dockyard on December 5, said Mr. Gibbons.
KEMPE RE-ELECTED CON LEG Kempe re-elected Dianna Kempe, Managing Partner at Appleby, Spurling & Kempe and Deputy Chair of the Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA) was re-elected as Secretary General of the International Bar Association at the IBA's 26th Bienniel Conference.
About 4,000 attended the conference, held in late October in Berlin, Germany, including representatives from the three Bermuda firms of Appleby, Spurling & Kempe, Cox & Wilkinson, and Conyers, Dill & Pearman.
CONSULTANTS HIRED TAX Consultants hired The Ministry of Finance will use outside consultants to assist with its review of the present tax system.
Among the targets of the review will be the Stamp Duties Act of 1976. A consultant from the United Kingdom's Inland Revenue, Pat Wallis has been retained and she will re-examine both the substance and the administration of the Act. Ms Wallis will arrive early in 1997.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Grant Gibbons said that an American firm that specialises in tax consulting has been engaged to perform a review of the existing system of property taxation.
FREE WORKSHOP CON Free workshop Charities applying for cash from the End-to-End walk next year are being invited to a free workshop designed to help them draw up a successful submission.
The workshop will be held at the offices of Johnson and Higgins, Victoria Hall, on Victoria Street, and has been arranged in conjunction with the Centre on Philanthropy.
Starla Williams, End-to-End chairperson, said: "Participants in the workshops will learn about key elements of a proposal including defining the problem, objectives, method and budget.
It is the End-to-End's tenth anniversary year and over the last nine years it has raised more than $740,000 which has been distributed to 32 charities.
EVENT HAILED A SUCCESS GVT Event hailed a success The Works and Engineering Ministry's hazardous waste drop-off event held last weekend is being heralded as a success.
Over 7,000 pounds of assorted hazardous waste, including about 5,200 pounds of paint, were dropped off at the Tyne's Bay facility in Devonshire.
COINS AVAILABLE HERE GVT Coins available here The Bermuda Monetary Authority wish to stress that their new gold and silver triangular coins are available in Bermuda.
Following a recent article in The Royal Gazette which reported the coins were "selling like hotcakes'' internationally, the BMA has been besieged by queries.
BMA special services division manager Lori Blackwood said the British Royal Mint was distributing a portion of the coins internationally but locally they were available from coin dealers and select stores.
