Fast start for motocross contenders
opening race meet of the motocross season at Coney Island on Sunday.
Zahkie Iris won all three 50cc races over Jonte Smith who ran into problems in two race races and had to settle for second overall.
Gary Cann easily won the 60cc races, then went out to ride the 80cc class.
Randy Munro and Tulio Escolastica were second and third.
Jimmy-Lee Weaver came out on top in the 80cc class with three wins while Nicholas Hassell finished second and Gary Cann third.
Melone Munro gave the boys a taste of girl power as she made her race debut in the 80 modified class, finishing second behind 80cc champion Steven Panchaud.
Craig Panchaud won his first 125C trophy day with two victories over Treadwell Nisbett while Graham Sutherland and Steven Oughton were involved in a tight duel, Oughton eventually taking third spot.
Otis Ingham, dubbed the Beast from the East, showed his speed and conditioning as he romped to a hat-trick of wins. Carlston Burgess did lead some early laps but ended the day with three seconds while Wentworth Tucker celebrated his promotion to the B class with a third.
Jamel Williams won the 250 class and now has his sights set on the Pepsi National number one plate this year after winning the novice title 10 years ago.
