Sporleder star man for physical Argies

My ball! Argentina's players in action against Australia during last year's Classic at the National Sports Centre.

With this year's World Rugby Classic only a month away, it's time to look at the teams that will be coming to Bermuda for the tournament.

From now until the first match on Sunday, November 9, we will take a look at each team taking part, and some of the famous players who will once again grace these shores.

Today we focus on Argentina, a country that has come in leaps and bounds in international rugby in the last few years.

Tomorrow we will look at the Canadian side making the trip, and then on Tuesday and Wednesday every week we will profile a different side, finishing with last season's champions South Africa.

The one thing that you can always guarantee with any Argentina team is that they will be physical, and no-one epitomises this more than the most capped player in Argentina's squad, Pedro Sporleder, the lock.

Capped 78 times by his country, Sporleder had an international career that spanned 13 years and included four World Cups.

A former captain of the Pumas, Sporleder has a reputation for playing the game hard.

He made his debut for Argentina at just 19 years old, and at the beginning of his career became one of the first players to be sent off at a rugby World Cup when he was dismissed during the 1991 tournament in England after a fight with his Samoan opposite number Matt Keenan.

While Argentina are known for being a very physical side, they have also surprised sides in the past with their guile and quickness in the backs, and full back Diego Cuesta Silva displays all these qualities.

Capped 65 times by his country he first made his debut in 1983, and played for Argentina in the first World Cup in New Zealand in 1987.

Silva scored a try in his side's thrilling defeat at the hands of Australia in last year's Rugby Classic, when it took two periods of extra time to separate the sides after the game finished 12-12.
