Police caught a Smith's man sitting on his bike while impaired.

Magistrates heard Emmanuel Leonardo Madiro was on Dundonald Street, Hamilton, when officers approached.

The defendant told them he was waiting for his "ace boy" and the court heard his key was in the ignition and bike helmet was fastened.

Senior Crown counsel Paula Tyndale said officers noticed Madiro's breath smelt of alcohol and he was unsteady on his feet. The 24-year-old told officers: "I had a few drinks."

Madiro, 24, of Verdmont Road, admitted being impaired in control of a motorbike on February 16 in Pembroke.

He was fined $1,500 and banned from the road for two years.
