Report: Armed Police went to football club
Reports of armed Police activity following a public order incident at Southampton Rangers Football Club were shrouded in mystery last night.
Television news said last night that Police went to the club on Sunday afternoon ? when PHC and Dandy Town played at the venue ? after reports that someone had been injured in the car park. It was claimed that armed Police went back to the club yesterday and intercepted a car where they found a bloody shirt and a knife.
Police spokesman Robin Simmons confirmed that there had been a disturbance at the club on Sunday but refused to comment on whether a firearms unit visited the premises yesterday.
Club president John Tucker said that although he had heard of two disturbances after Sunday?s game ? one involving a bike and the other involving an injury ? both of these occurred off the club?s premises.
He said he didn?t see Police at the club. ?I?m quite upset about what?s taken place. This is not even football related. We are trying to do things for our community and people from the community are really upset about it.?
