More honours for all-conquering Village?

North Village are tipped to make a clean sweep of the top honours at the Bermuda Football Association's second annual awards ceremony.

The event is to be held this Saturday at the Ocean View Golf Club and leading the charge for this year's prestigious Most Valuable Player of the Year award are talented brothers Kentoine and Keith Jennings. Dwayne (Streaker) Adams, meanwhile, remains a firm candidate to capture the Goalkeeper of the Year award and coach Scott Morton the coveted Coach of the Year prize.

The Village quartet all featured prominantly in their club's successful campaign this season, which not only saw them repeat as league and FA Cup champions, but also join the likes of Young Men's Social Club, Somerset Trojans and PHC Zebras as the only other clubs to have won back to back league and Cup championships.

Kentoine Jennings, also nominated for this year's best Defensive Player award, and Morton walked away with the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the year awards respectively during last year's post-season presentation, while Adams' protege, Zane Hendrickson, seized the goalkeeper's top award.

Challenging Morton for this year's coaching award is Southampton Rangers' coach Nick Jones, who led his club to an impressive First Division double of league and Shield championships, and Devonshire Cougars' coach Albert Smith whose team finished as runner's up to Village in the league and reached the semifinal stage of every domestic cup competition.

Cougars' top marksman Raymond Beach - who led the league in scoring for the second consecutive year - was also nominated for this year's MVP award. Beach finished the season with 20 goals to his credit and also remains among the leading candidates for this year's Young Player of the Year award, while colleague Galvin Butterfield was nominated for Defensive Player of the Year.

Leading the women's category for the prestigious MVP award are PHC's Tashana Wade and Kimmeisha Perinchief along with Rude Girls' feared poacher Chevonne Furbert. Perinchief was also nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Dandy Stars' Damina Caisey, Hemisphere Royals' Denise Ward and Rude Girls' Sekena Clarke were all selected for the best Defensive Player of the Year award.

Departing Rude Girls' coach Vance Brown, meanwhile, again appears poised to seize the coveted women's Coach of the Year award after leading his club to another triple crown winning season comprised of league title, Konica Cup and Charity Cup titles.

Brown's talented player, Ashley Wall, is also heavily favoured to walk away with the Women's Young Player of the Year award, while PHC's Shuntae Todd and Wall's colleague Chyra Bell are also in with a good shot of winning the top prize.

Relegated Somerset Trojans, meanwhile, may find some light at the end of the tunnel as promising striker Dion Stovell is a firm candidate to walk away with this year's Young Player award. Boulevard's rising star Takehyi Walker was last year's proud recipient.

Walker's colleague Conneko Trott - who occasionally came off the bench to score some vital goals for the Blazers - is also among the favourites.

Senior referees Lyndon Raynor, Gregory Simons and Anthony Mouchete, meanwhile, all emerged as leading candidates for the Official of the Year award.

In addition, awards will also be presented to club administrators Diane Hunt, Doronda Smith, Sandra Bean, Pat Seymour, Debra Wilkin, Lucille Woolridge, Edith Beek and Sonia Holder for their fine contributions to the sport. Also, special awards will be presented to the leading scorers of the Premier, First and Women's Divisions and both the Men's and Women's Fair Play teams at Saturday's event which gets underway at 6 p.m.

"We are hoping to have a good turnout on Saturday night," said BFA special events chairman Craig Tyrrell. "I believe that the BFA is really trying to uphold their mandate by honouring excellence in football.

"This will be the second year in a row that we have held the event and I am now looking forward to it becoming the mainstay on the local football calendar."
