Schools soccer
National Stadium on Friday night to cheer for their respective schools in the finals of the Secondary Schools Cup Competition.
In what is billed as the glamour competition on the high school schedule this triple-header will start at 5.30 with the under-13 division final between Whitney Institute and Saltus Grammar.
The next two finals, intermediate and seniors, will involve Sandys Secondary and Berkeley, starting at 7.00 and 8.30.
Saltus eliminated champions Berkeley in the under-13 competition when they beat them 4-3 in the semifinals while under-15 cup holders Whitney were knocked out by Berkeley in the quarter-finals 3-1. Berkeley are the over-15 champions and will take on Sandys in a repeat of last year's final, which Berkeley won 6-2 after trailing 2-1. Sandys will be out for revenge for that extra-time defeat last year.
Whitney will be chasing the league and cup double against Saltus in the under-13 final, having already clinched the league title by defeating all the other schools before being held to a 2-2 draw by Saltus who finished runners-up.
Berkeley are the new league champions in the under-15 division and have already beaten Whitney 6-1 this season. Anything can happen in this contest.
The senior division is yet to be decided but in their earlier encounter Berkeley defeated an under-strength Sandys team 3-1. Sandys are expected to be at full strength for Friday's match.
Admission fee is $3 for adults and $2 for school children.
