Don't worry. Johnny Barnes is doing just fine.
Residents may have noticed the Crow Lane morning "greeter" was missing from the roundabout on Wednesday morning. received several phone calls from locals worried about Mr. Barnes.
But Mr. Barnes wants Bermuda to rest assured that he's OK, having met guests at the Southampton Princess for a portion of the morning.
The hotel contacted Mr. Barnes because many of their guests wanted to meet the local celebrity, after hearing so much about him.
Anglican church members are being urged to take up a collection for the second week in a row for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Archdeacon Andrew Doughty said Bishop Ewen Ratteray had asked all Anglican congregations around Bermuda to assist the hurricane victims on the US Gulf Coast.
"Interestingly only in August we collected on behalf of the Red Cross West African appeal, totalling around $10,000," he said. "Coming so soon after the last appeal, I am amazed by the generosity of the people."
Dolphin Quest Bermuda is asking the public to participate in a world-wide event to help clean up Bermuda's beaches.
There will be a clean-up at Mangrove Bay, Sandys on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"All you need to bring is yourself, we provide the rest," a Dolphin Quest flyer said. "Let's take pride in our Island home! Please join us ? you, your co-workers, friends and family ? for any amount of time as we work to protect our oceans. All participants will be entered into a draw for a prize."
Police are appealing for witnesses after a Southampton man was robbed in the street early yesterday morning.
The 30-year-old victim was riding his motorbike with a friend when a gang of men called them over to the parking lot outside Place's Place, at the junction of Court Street and Victoria Street.
One of the group then demanded cash and the victim, whose friend had fled, handed over $50 before another $20 was reportedly stolen.
Police said the victim's bike keys were also taken before being thrown to the ground. When the victim tried to pick them up, the offender struck him in the back with his knee.
Officers want to trace a man about five feet, eight inches tall, of medium build and who was wearing a long, white T-shirt and had his hair in long braids.
The robbery happened at about 3.45 a.m. Witnesses should call Police on 295-0011.
The Salvation Army will be holding a block party tonight to celebrate the International Year of the Child.
Carol McDowall, a member of the committee, said the party will also be a fundraising event for their youth department and a celebration of the new school year. North Street will be closed from 6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
The Salvation Army wants families to join in the festivities. There will be entertainment, games, food and stalls on hand.
With less than two weeks before nominations close, the Bermuda Bravery Award Association is encouraging Bermudians to get in touch and help find Bermuda's heroes.
