Shawn and Marcia weather their first storm

Shawn Dwayne Eugene Fubler and his wife, the former Carolyn Tina Marcia Tucker, returned to Bermuda this week after an extended honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico.

In a sense their wedding got off to a stormy start but they weathered it gracefully, in great spirits with the scores of relatives and friends who witnessed it.

What happened, at the very movement, just after ten o'clock on the morning of August 8, when they were exchanging their vows Tropical Storm Colin, the first potential hurricane of the season to threaten Bermuda, was at its closest point to the island. It had threatened to shut the island down, but it changed course and fizzled to the northwest.

For months Shawn and Marcia had carefully planned for a fabulous outdoors wedding at the Botanical Gardens. But Colin blew everything at the last moment to an event in the conference room at the Gardens. The room was beautifully decorated, lending itself to a warmth and intimacy that otherwise might not have been possible for the guests to eat, drink and toast to the happiness of Shawn and Marcia.

And the weather did not stop the bride and groom from taking a traditional drive around town in their open, convertible cars.

Despite the stormy weather, Art Simons of Photographic Associates managed to find a spot for the pictures above of the newlyweds and their wedding party. Marcia was attended as maid of honour by Kathy Wilson and as maids by Charmaine Robinson, Dionne Gouness, junior bridesmaids Deja Tucker and flower girl Jade Fubler. Shawn's best man was his friend Jermaine Benjamin. Groomsmen were Sherwin Fubler and Terry Trott.
