Wired Wednesday focuses on e-commerce

E-commerce in Bermuda will be the focus for the Business Technology Division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce special Wired Wednesday event held this week.The roundtable panel discussion, which will be held at XL House’s conference room, 1 Bermudiana Road, Hamilton on Wednesday, will look at the origins, progress and future of this component of the local economy.Marisa Stones, chairwoman of the Business Technology Division, said: “Throughout 2010, our division has been meeting regularly to discuss important topics of the day and how this division can identify areas where business technology can make a positive difference for its member and for Bermuda overall.“Our meetings identified that it was important to bring the industry together to understand key opportunities and concerns that may have short and long term impacts on the ICT sector.“To this end, our division suggested leveraging our successful Wired Wednesday event and extend it to a formatted forum for discussion and networking.”Wired Wednesdays have been offered to the business technology community since December 2004.It has attracted up to as many as 100 plus attendees at each event and provides vendors a platform to launch new products. The division intends to keep this format, but offer it on a quarterly basis instead. Chris Maiato, division member, said: “The new discussion format of the Wired Wednesday will take place this Wednesday April 27. We have titled the event ‘E-commerce in Bermuda, The Past and Future’ and have secured a well respected expert panel, which includes Florence Smith, Michael Branco and Vivian Curtis.“The objective is to explore the origins, progress and future of e-commerce in Bermuda. We encourage senior leadership teams from all of Bermuda’s business sectors to attend including retail, service organisations and providers, telecommunications companies and hospitality.”Those interested in attending should RSVP to flines[AT]bcc.bm
