Customs auctioning unclaimed goods
There was standing room only yesterday as Customs officials held their annual auction of unclaimed goods.
The two day event at Number Seven shed kicked off with a viewing from 8.30 a.m. until 10 a.m., where interested buyers could look at items for sale before the first half of the bidding which started at 10 a.m.
More than 470 lots were up for grabs, ranging from rugs to wheel trims, and were from orders made overseas but for which duty was never paid, resulting in the items sitting in customs.
Assistant Collector, William Pearman, said: "The crowd has been consistent over the years and we usually sell just about everything. What doesn't sell will be destroyed and discarded as duty has not been paid."
The auction will continue today at the same time or until everything is sold out.
