being stabbed early yesterday morning along Court Street.

Police attended the area at the intersection of Reid and Court Streets shortly after 4 a.m. Upon arrival they found Clinton Saunders -- covered in blood as a result of a stab wound -- being attended by a friend. Police could not say what motivated the attack.

A 22-year-old Sandys man suspected of carrying out the attack was spotted nearby, pursued, and subsequently arrested. Police are continuing to investigate.

SAVAGE ATTACK PUTS MAN IN HOSPITAL CRM Savage attack puts man in hospital A 25-year-old Pembroke man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with facial injuries after he was allegedly kicked about the body and had a rock thrown at his face.

The unidentified victim told Police he was at the Victor Scott School playing field around 6 p.m. when he was approached by another man known to him.

After a brief discussion the assailant apparently became aggravated and -- for no apparent reason -- started attacking the victim. The victim managed to escape but was followed to a nearby residence where he was attacked with a rock.

The victim sustained bruising to his body and facial injuries requiring hospital treatment. Police are continuing to investigate.

CREWS CALLED TO ELLIOTT STREET BLAZE FIR Crews called to Elliott Street blaze Pembroke firecrews were called out early yesterday morning to put down a fire at a derelict two-story structure on Elliott Street.

Six vehicles and 18 personnel were called out at 1.53 a.m. and quickly doused the fire, though the building suffered heat and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Earlier in the weekend two firetrucks and nine crew were dispatched to the Mill Shares area of Pembroke to douse a brush fire.

The fire started Saturday morning when old horticultural waste apparently spontaenously combusted.

POLICE PROBKING GUEST HOUSE BREAK-IN CRM Police probing guest house break-in Police are investigating a break-in at a Pembroke guest house which took place during the early hours of Saturday morning.

A visiting couple from Saudi Arabia told Police someone had entered their room as they slept and removed a wallet and a quantity of loose cash from a bedroom dresser. Enquiries are continuing.

SPEEDING DRIVER ALSO HAD A WEAPON CTS Speeding driver also had a weapon A 26-year-old Pembroke man was arrested over the weekend for possession of knuckleduster following a high-speed chase.

Around 4.40 a.m. on Saturday morning a Police patrol on Dundonald Street noticed a cycle travelling at a high rate of speed. Police pursued the cycle and eventually stopped it on Woodlands Road, where it was discovered the rider was in possession of the knuckleduster -- a prohibited weapon.

The rider is expected to appear in court in due course.

SAILORS QUESTIONED IN VAN VANDALISM CRM Sailors questioned in van vandalism Two sailors from the Canadian frigate HMCS Terra Nova were questioned by Police after the window of a parked Diahatsu van was smashed during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident was witnessed by a member of the public who gave Police a description of the two suspects.

They were eventually traced to the visiting ship where they are being held pending a Police investigation. Enquiries are continuing.

TWO MOTORCYCLES IN WEEKEND CRASH AC Two motorcycles in weekend crash Police are investigating a weekend accident between two motorcycles on Spanish Point Road in Pembroke.

Shortly after midday Saturday, a Suzuki cycle was travelling west on Spanish Point Road when an auxiliary cycle suddenly emerged from a private driveway and collided with it.

The rider of the auxiliary cycle apparently rode off without stopping but not before punching the rider of the other bike who was attempting to restrain him.

The Suzuki rider sustained abrasions and bruising to his leg while his wife, who was riding as a passenger, suffered a broken rib.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident and any witnesses are asked to contact PC Shaun Maybury at the Hamilton Police Station, 295-0011.

TEACHER'S CAR DAMAGED AT SCHOOL CRM ED Teacher's car damaged at school Police and school officials are investigating circumstances which left a Whitney teacher's car damaged at school.

The teacher told Police he parked his car outside a classroom around 8.30 a.m.

last Wednesday. He returned around lunchtime to find some scuff marks and dents on the passenger door.

Whitney principal Gail Graham said she suspected that the damage was the work of one student who was angry or dissatisfied with the teacher.

"It is annoying for the teacher,'' she said. "But it is a rather minor incident which we are investigating.''
