Driver of overturned car banned
A drink-driver who overturned her car while over the legal limit on New Year’s Day has banned from the roads for 18 months.
Yvonne Dobson, 60, pleaded guilty to driving on Middle Road, Sandys, on January 1 while impaired by alcohol.
Police responded to reports of an overturned silver car on its roof on the eastbound lane, near White Hill Field, at about 8.45pm.
Dobson was unsteady on her feet and when asked if she had consumed alcohol said: “Yes, I’m not sober.”
Blood samples revealed her to be over the legal limit.
Dobson apologised to the court and was fined $1,500 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
Jade Balquin was also banned for 18 months after admitting to being in control of a car while impaired by alcohol on Lighthouse Road in Southampton.
The court heard the 40-year-old, from Paget, told police he was dropping off friends on September 27.
Officers observed Balquin’s eyes were red and glazed. They noticed he was unsteady on his feet and that his breath smelt of liquor.
He was referred to DUI Treatment Court after admitting that alcohol was negatively affecting his life.
Maxanne Anderson, the senior magistrate, said: “I have to disqualify you from driving for 18 months, but if you participate in that court you could get your licence back in a year.”
