Adams doubtful for warm-up games
Injury to top goalkeeper and national team captain Dwayne (Streaker) Adams may force coach Kenny Thompson to look for an alternative skipper ahead of next week?s World Cup warm-up matches against Trinidad and Tobago.
Adams injured himself playing Southampton Rangers last Sunday and is expected to miss both matches against the crack Caribbean team.
Yesterday coach Thompson refused to discuss any possible replacement, saying he would prefer to make any such announcement during this weekend?s practice sessions in which the national squad will be downsized to 22 players.
Also on the injury list is former national team skipper Meshach Wade who will undergo a fitness test tomorrow.
Thompson said: ?Injury to any player disrupts preparations. But having said that, injuries are all a part of football.
?But this is a continuing process and we must build a squad capable of withstanding things like injuries or suspensions. Certainly the ideal situation would be not to have any players injured but we must learn to live with it.?
Bermuda, meanwhile, continued their World Cup preparations on Wednesday night at the National Sports Centre where they overcame Premier Division league leaders Dandy Town 3-1.
During the training match Town veteran Carlos Smith, reported in Wednesday?s Bermuda Sun to be injured, appeared to be fit.
Thompson continued: ?Meshach (Wade) is nursing an injury and I won?t know his situation until Saturday. I have been in contact with him this week and it seems to be healing but whether or not it will heal before next week, we will have to wait and see.?
The coach said it was important not to risk players during preparation matches, although he will allow all national team players to represent their respective clubs this weekend.
?It?s important we ensure that we have as many players (injury-free) as possible for the first leg (World Cup) match against Montserrat,? he said
?Overall things are looking quite good. The preparation has been going quite well and we should be able to perform well in the upcoming matches against Trinidad.?
