Two shows are opening in The Bermuda Society of the Arts galleries this evening.

The first is opening in the Edinburgh Gallery and features hand painted colour prints, and black and white prints, which are all based on the book "Bermuda The Quiet Years".

The other show opens in the Onions Gallery and it is the Black and White Show. It is a juried members exhibition that is open to all mediums and themes.

Artists have been creative, in interpreting the theme however they wish.

BSoA gallery director Peter Lapsley said: "At the moment we have work entered that is all two dimensional from photography to painting.

"It looks to be a good show though and something slightly different to the recently closed, very well received incredibly bright Annual Schools Art Show.

"Some artists involved so far are Amanda Temple, Angela Lightbourne, Giles Campbell, Lindsey George, Peter Lapsley, Al Seymour and Shelly Hamill.

Photographer Theresa Airey, who worked on Bermuda the Quiet Years, with Edward Marshall said they sent a copy of the book to Queen Elizabeth for Christmas.

The Queen's lady in waiting wrote back thanking them for their gift.

The letter stated: "Her Majesty warmly appreciated the sentiments and the photographs have bought back many happy memories for both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh."

Mrs. Airey said there were only 300 copies of the book left and she and Mr. Marshall had decided not to do a re-print.

The shows open at 5.30 p.m. on Friday and both run until March 16.
