On June 1, Tamiko Kywon Wainwright admitted to possessing 426 grams of cannabis after arriving on a chartered flight from Jamaica on March 11, 1997.

Customs officials discovered a false compartment in the bottom of one of his bags during a search.

In the compartment were three packages of cannabis wrapped in carbon paper, plastic, and tape.

Yesterday, lawyer Elizabeth Christopher asked Magistrate Edward King to consider a conditional discharge for Wainwright, 21, of Hamilton Parish, because "he has made an attempt to turn his life around''.

She said Wainwright had little contact with his father but now gets "his authority from a higher place''.

Mr. King told the court: "There are no exceptional circumstances in this case. A message must be sent out that thinking members of this society will not tolerate drugs.'' Crown Council Leighton Rochester said the gun and ammunition were found just before 3 p.m. when Customs officers checked the cruise ship's staff cabins.

Peter Farge, representing Dizon, told the court that his client -- who is married with two children in the Phillipines -- "used to shoot rats in his home in the Phillipines''.

And Mr. Farge also read a letter from Dizon's employer on the cruise ship stating he was "extremely reliable'' and had "never been in trouble''.

Mr. King agreed the offence was " a crime based on circumstance'' and gave him a conditional discharge for 12 months.

CASHIER ADMITS THEFT CTS Cashier admits theft A cashier at Trimingham Brothers yesterday admitted stealing more than $100 from the store.

Maria Almeida, 19, of Mill Reach Road, stole $103.96 from the department store and falsified a company document on June 9, Magistrates' Court said.

Crown counsel Leighton Rochester told the court an accounting error was discovered at the store on June 9.

It was later revealed that Almeida had charged $353.96 of merchandise on her Trimingham's charge card on September 22 of last year.

And although she had paid $250 on her account, she gave herself a full refund without returning the merchandise.

When questioned about the incident, Almedia -- who is now a salesperson at the Living Centre -- said: "I am under a lot of emotional stress.'' Magistrate Edward King gave her a conditional discharge for one year on each count as she had "shown remorse'' but warned her "don't do anything like this again''.
