Timothy Gordon Ritchie, 28, yesterday changed his plea to guilty after being caught on Par-la-Ville Road in Hamilton at 1.05 a.m. on Friday, March 13.

Magistrate Edward King heard that Ritchie, of Lookout Lane, Devonshire, was stopped by Police after he drove through a red light on Bermudiana Road.

Crown Counsel Lesley Basden said he was swerving about the road in a silver Suzuki car.

Police noted his breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glazed, and his speech was slurred.

When Ritchie was asked if he had been drinking, he said: "Yes. I've had a few. I'm not far from home.'' A breath test showed Ritchie had 239 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Ritchie, a food and beverage manager at Elbow Beach Hotel, told Mr. King that he only wished to apologise and could pay the fine immediately.

Javon Lambert, of Bulkhead Drive, Smith's, was caught speeding on a motorcycle at 70 kph just after 5 p.m. on July 5 on Middle Road in Warwick.

But when officers pulled Lambert over near White's grocery store, he said his name was "Javon Smith.'' Lambert was later charged with lying about his name, speeding and driving while disqualified -- because he was not old enough to ride a motorcycle.

Lambert, who pleaded guilty, said: "I am sorry. It will never happen again.'' Magistrate Edward King fined Lambert $100 for making a false statement, $150 for driving while disqualified, and $350 for speeding.

He also disqualified Lambert from driving auxiliary cycles for one year.

PEMBROKE MAN PLEADS GUILTY CTS Pembroke man pleads guilty A 19-year-old construction worker pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to having 1.7 grams of cannabis on June 7.

Jason Correia, of Old House Lane, Pembroke, was arrested at 12.45 a.m. in the parking lot of Studio 55 nightclub on Cavendish Road.

Magistrate Edward King fined Correia, who works for RMS construction, $350 yesterday.

He heard Police had pulled into the parking area after receiving information and saw Correia swiftly walking away.

They found a brown twist and a home-made cigarette in his pockets, which both contained cannabis.
