An online market is to be launched next week to help prop up the retail sector in the run-up to Christmas.

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce said its first virtual Christmas market, will offer a platform for stores – especially shops without online sites – to sell their wares.

The web-based shopping hub will run from November 16 to December 23 and include payment, delivery and collection options.

Kendaree Burgess, of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “With the support of Butterfield and Admuda, we are excited to offer an economical online option to both members and non-members.

“We encourage all businesses – large and small, bricks and mortar establishments and home based vendors – to join the market and take advantage of a safe, simple and successful way to participate in the holiday season.”

Michael Neff, the managing director of Butterfield Bank, said: “With this initiative, the Chamber has created an easy way for local businesses to establish or expand their e-commerce presence and a fun and festive way for shoppers to find unique gifts.

“We encourage everyone to explore the virtual market and support our local businesses this holiday season.”
