Lionel Cann shrugged off a bothersome ankle injury to record Bermuda's first century on their Caribbean tour and inspire the tourists to an emphatic 96-run run victory over Grenada's Under-23 national squad yesterday.

Batting at number two, the mercurial Cann banged five sixes and eight fours in an unbeaten 110 off just 96 balls and shared in an 89-run opening stand with Chris Douglas (21).

The veteran St.David's Islander was particularly harsh on seamer Josh Thomas who was carted for 15 runs in one over as Bermuda reaped immediate dividends after electing to bat first.

After retiring hurt in the 70s when a niggling achilles injury reared its head, Cann picked up where he left off when he returned to the crease to notch a second century at this level in the past three months.

Others in double figures for Bermuda, who recorded their second highest total and seventh win on their tour of the Caribbean, were vice-captain David Hemp (34), Fiqre Crockwell (19), Delyone Borden (14) and Rodney Trott (12 not out).

At one stage Bermuda were well on course to post an even steeper total. But a middle -order collapse which saw four wickets tumble for 22 runs restricted them below the 250-run mark to stoke Grenadan hopes of pulling off a famous win against a top ICC Associate team.

Off-break bowler Tade Carmicheal (two for 40) and left -arm orthodox bowler Ronald Ettiene (two for 46) were the only two bright spots in an otherwise wayward Grenadan bowling attack that tossed down 22 wides.

Bermuda's hosts got off to a good start in reply with openers Haren Campbell (51) and Denis Smith (30) adding 53 runs for the first wicket. But once Bermuda skipper Irving Romaine turned to spin, the Grenadans' batsmen were bamboozled by off-break bowlers Tamauri Tucker and Trott who gobbled up eight wickets between them.

Tucker was the pick of the bowling attack with remarkable figures of five for 23 with one maiden off 7.4 overs while former Bermuda vice-captain Trott took three for 29 with two maidens bowling his allotted ten overs unchanged.

Others taking wickets were skipper Romaine (one for four) and fast bowler Kevin Hurdle who grabbed one for 53 off six overs in his first appearance on the tour which concludes on Friday.

Bermuda will now take on Grenada's senior national team tomorrow when they will look to continue their winning ways.
