its name before it has even opened.

Lawyer Mr. Justin Williams on Friday made an application on behalf of his clients Mr. Donald Hassell and Mr. Micky Adderley to transfer a provisional liquor licence from the Fox and Hound to the Hunt Club -- the pub's new name.

But the Liquor Licence Authority heard Police were seeking a three-week adjournment to do routine background checks on the pub's owners and managers.

However, the board, after hearing claims the checks had already been conducted and noting that Police were absent from court, agreed to a one week adjournment.

Mr. Williams had told the panel his client could not sustain a three-week adjournment. He was losing $2,000 a week while the pub remained ready to open for business, but unable to because it had no liquor licence.

There were no material changes in the pub, Mr. Williams said. It was the exactly the same business but with a different name and with Mr. Adderley named as the main owner instead of Mr. Hassell. However, Mr. Adderley had been a co-owner and was thus, already subject to a background check.

In June, in spite of objections from the owner of next door restaurant, Somerset Country Squire owner Mr. Hassell and Flanagan's pub owner Mr.

Adderley were granted a provisional licence to open an English-style pub called the Fox and Hounds on the premises of the former Cottage Bakery in Smith's Parish.

A new hearing date was set for next Thursday.
