Bascome does damage for Flatts with five-wicket haul

Flatts inflicted only the second loss on Somerset Bridge this season, handing them a 61-run defeat at St David’s yesterday.

Flatts’ total of 167 for seven from 34 overs in a rain-reduced match proved more than enough after Nelson Bascome Jr claimed five for 15 from 5.3 overs to help restrict Bridge to 106 in reply.

It was the first defeat for the First Division leaders since the Under-17 side beat them in their first match.

Leading the batting for Flatts was Isiah Lewis with 41, Kijuan Franks 39 and Regino Smith 29, the latter two putting on 63 for the second wicket to take the score to 80.

In reply Bridge lost early wickets to be 35 for five before Sean Riley’s 54 at No 8 offered the only real resistance after a good spell of bowling from Bascome. Kijuan Franks claimed two for 19 and Dajon Carey two for 32.

PHC and Warwick were both very generous in the wides department at PHC Field, conceding 104 wides between them in a match that did not finish until close to 8pm last night with PHC winning by 83 runs.

PHC posted 257 for nine in their 50 overs as veteran Kyle Lightbourne, batting at No 7, hit 78 off three fours and four sixes. Davin Dill supported with 44 earlier in the order while Dante Wellman scored 23.

Dequan Benjamin claimed three for 35 to lead the Warwick bowling while youngsters Cameron Jeffers and Demiko James had two for 59 and two for 42 from 10 overs each.

Opener Lionel Cann scored 37 in an opening stand of 47 with Demiko James as Warwick fell short in their run chase.

Chris Kawaley scored 21 and captain Jade Darrell 19 as Ellsworth Bean took three for 19 to lead the PHC bowling.

Captain Delray Rawlins scored 40 runs and then took two wickets for 17 runs off ten overs as the Bermuda Under-17 side beat Devonshire Rec by 23 runs on Saturday at St John’s Field.

Amari Ebbin was the highest scorer for the under-17s with 47 in their total of 204 for seven from 50 overs, while Shakeal Outerbridge scored 32 and opener Nzari Paynter 24.

Sean DeGraff was top scorer for Devonshire Rec with 51 not out, while opener Dapo Frederick scored 47 as Rec replied with 181 for nine in 50 overs. Micah Simons claimed three for 20 for the under-17s while Rawlins and Kacey Green both claimed two wickets.
