Jarahzino Bassett and Clay Darrell scored goals –either side of the break as St. George’s Colts knocked Southampton Rangers out of the Friendship Cup last night at Devonshire Rec.

Colts, who saw their –initial match against Rangers abandoned due to bad light over the weekend at Wellington Oval, will now face Devonshire Cougars in the next round.

In windy conditions, it was Colts who got off on the better foot and exerted more of the pressure throughout the game and the side were awarded for their hunger –toward the clash with their first off a free kick.

After a sustained –midfield battle between both teams, Colts were awarded a foul that was curled into the box by –man-of-the-match Clay –Darrell and put home at the back post by Bassett with almost –half-an-hour gone.

Darrell’s pinpoint cross eluded both Ijahmon –Mallory and Jerreau –Hayward on its way to –finding Bassett streaking in at the back post for a simple tap in.

Colts midfielder Chae Simmons had a chance to level matters moments –later, but pushed his effort wide.

Two minutes into the –second half the game was –effectively ended as a –contest when Darrell beat the Rangers offside trap and fired the ball an onrushing Sean Perinchief in goal.

Jahron Dickinson had a chance to make it three but flashed his effort across the goal.

In the end, deserved –winners St. George’s –advance.
