Road advisory for this evening’s Island Games half-marathon

Some road delays are likely this evening as the NatWest Island Games half-marathon road race takes place in Pembroke and Devonshire, predominately along North Shore Road.Race director Spencer Conway said: “As the race extends between the national stadium, Spanish Point and Flatts please keep in mind our local and visiting international athletes will be on the road during this time and to avoid delays you may want to take a different route home this evening, or alternatively come out and watch the race and support the athletes.”The race starts at 6.30pm, coinciding with the closing ceremony for the Games.From the start line at the National Sports Centre, athletes will follow the race route along Frog Lane, Marsh Folly Road, Blackwatch Pass, turning west along North Shore Road and St John’s Road to a turnaround point just before the Spanish Point Boat Club.The athletes then return back along St John’s Road and onto North Shore Road, heading east until the next turnaround point at Jennings Road, just before Flatts Village.The runners will return west along North Shore Road, turning up Blackwatch Pass, Marsh Folly Road and Frog Lane to reach the finish line at the National Sports Centre running track.It is anticipated that all runners will have completed the race by 8.30pm. Marshalls and police officers will be on duty at various points on the route to control traffic.
