Conyers features strongly in Legal 500 rankings

Conyers has been recommended as top-tier in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands in the latest Legal 500 directory rankings.

The firm has maintained several rankings in Corporate and Commercial and Banking, Finance and Capital Markets, Dispute Resolution, Insurance/Reinsurance and Trusts/Private Client.

Conyers Corporate & Commercial, Banking, Finance and Capital Markets practice groups are ranked Tier 1 in Bermuda. Our lawyers have considerable experience advising on M&A and corporate restructurings. The team has also seen an uptick in international asset finance transactions, particularly matters relating to shipping and aircraft financing issues; the group has key expertise in the shipping and offshore energy sectors in Norway, North America and Asia.

The firm is also ranked Tier 1 for Dispute Resolution in Bermuda. The team is involved in a variety of the jurisdiction’s high-end and high-value disputes, with particular expertise in commercial disputes and trust litigation. Regularly appearing before leading Bermudian courts and in arbitration proceedings, the group is “used to handling large-scale litigation”; it also has particular experience acting in international restructuring, insolvency, insurance and reinsurance disputes.

Conyers Bermuda Insurance/Reinsurance practice received a Tier 1 ranking. Clients noted the team as “very knowledgeable about all aspects of the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance markets, including regulatory issues, market practice and corporate governance”. The group deals with formation, licensing and capital raising issues for new insurers, life insurers and reinsurers, as well as capital raisings, M&A activity and listing requirements for Bermudian insurers and reinsurers.

The Private Client & Trust practice in Bermuda is ranked Tier 1. The team is regarded as 'exceptionally strong'. Together with the firm’s litigation department, they work on a raft of the region’s high-value, cross-border trusts disputes. The team also advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, trustees and corporate clients on a broad range of issues, including inheritance structuring work, private investment structures, intergenerational asset transfers, pensions and regulatory law.

The real estate team in Bermuda is instructed by international and domestic clients on major commercial real estate developments, including a large volume of residential purchases and sales. Acting for a wide range of sellers and buyers, from first-time homebuyers to high-net-worth purchasers and developers, the department also focuses on leases and property financing work.
