The opening day of the fishing season went off without a hitch, and the tournament on Sunday which got everything started had, well, a catch to it.
With 46 fish caught by sunset, weigh masters Tom and Morag Smith were kept busy at Mangrove Bay Public Wharf.
There were 15 boats arriving at Albouys Point on Sunday morning and they headed up to Two Rock Passage behind Mako 4, the fleet parade boat. The vessels -- from 60 footers to 16 footers -- were bedecked with flags as the 60-plus anglers celebrated the start of the season in style. From then on it was serious business as the anglers were kept busy until fishing ended at 3 p.m.
The top anglers will receive trophies and prizes on May 21.
The winners: Steven Antonition (60-pound yellowfin tuna); Neil Jones (49-pound, 12-ounce whahoo); Brian Lines (29-pound, 8-ounce yellowfin tuna); Brian Hines (55-pound, 8-ounce whahoo); Don Hunt (71-pound, 12-ounce yellowfin tuna).
SOCCER SOC BAA will hold a session at BAA Gymnasium on Monday (6 p.m.) for all players and anyone interested in representing the team in the Second Division next season. Players should bring sneakers.
The Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club will be holding a meeting on Monday, May 10 (8 p.m.) at the club for all players and anyone wishing to play.
MARATHON DERBY MAR Swan's Running Club is requesting volunteers to assist at the finish line of this year's race. Those interested should attend a meeting at the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation on Monday (5.30 p.m.).
GOLF GLF Port Royal Golf Club will host its annual Jubilee Tournament on Sunday, May 16. The event is limited to 64 teams and will be played under a two-ball better-ball stableford format on three-quarter handicap.
Entry forms are available at the Port Royal Pro Shop, Ocean View Pro Shop and the Upstairs Golf and Tennis shop.
TARGET SHOOTING SHO Carl Reid had a top score of 195 to win Wednesday's shoot at the Prospect Range. Anthony Rabain was second on 194. Nelson Simons was the top shooter for the month of April.
