Ten receive Public Service scholarships
Public Service Bursary Award scholarships were handed out to ten Bermudians pursuing post-secondary academic qualifications to meet future Government employment needs.The recipients in the Professional and Technical Trainee Scheme and the Bursary Award Scheme attended a special luncheon at Fairmont Hamilton Princess yesterday.Premier Craig Cannonier presented the awards after a keynote address.The award scheme is designed to help recruit for positions where there are often limited people resources in specialised areas.A Government spokeswoman said: “The Professional and Technical Trainee Scheme provides Bermudians with the opportunity to obtain qualifications and experiences that enable them to fill professional and technical positions within the public service.“Trainees receive both practical work related and specific academic experiences locally and overseas. This ensures that suitably qualified Bermudians are available to undertake professional and technical posts within the public service,” she said.Professional and Technical Trainee Scheme Award recipients include: Sarine Babb, Katrina Ball, Taché King and Laura Murphy.Public Service Bursary Awards were presented to Jasmine Caines, Amné Osseyran, Keishae Robinson and Sara Westhead.Bursary Award graduates include Isha Douglas, Tika Gilbert, Quincy Glasford, LeRoya Hardtman, Yvonna Osborne and Cristen Simmons-Seuss.Premier Cannonier said: “I am thrilled to be part of something that is all about dreams, self-improvement, public service and the future.“All the recipients today — whether they are graduates from the Professional and Technical Trainee Scheme or recipients of bursary scholarships — represent Bermuda building toward something better.“This ceremony here today is another sign to me that the Island is moving in the right direction.“You will be the ones to shoulder responsibilities that will help the people of Bermuda live better and perform better; you will be the ones to help Bermuda get stronger.“That all of you have committed yourselves to public service in some form or other says to me that Bermuda’s future is looking good — a new generation of people helping people, building bonds of community, committed in spirit to ‘leaving no one behind’.“You are the next generation who will help steer us to a secure future. You are The Right Stuff — with heads and hearts in the right place; with ambitions to serve beyond yourselves.“You are the future. You are the right direction. This is a great day.”
