Nine given Government bursaries

Cindy Clarke, Devona Robinson, Koshea Scott, Oronde Smith, and Curtis Smith, Terron Thompson, Oriche Williams, Kennedy Wainwright, and Stephen Bourne all received the 1998 Bermuda Government Annual Bursary Award.

Cindy Clarke, Devona Robinson, Koshea Scott, Oronde Smith, and Curtis Smith, Terron Thompson, Oriche Williams, Kennedy Wainwright, and Stephen Bourne all received the 1998 Bermuda Government Annual Bursary Award.

Every year Government awards up to ten bursaries, each worth $5,000.

Applicants must be Bermudians planning a career in the public service and studying a qualification required by the public service.

Miss Clarke and Miss Robinson, who are both studying law, each received the first of a two-year bursary in 1997.

Miss Robinson is attending the University of East Anglia in England and will complete her Bachelor's Degree in law next year.

Miss Clarke is studying for her Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Kent in England. She will complete her studies in 1999.

Both young women will serve their pupillage in the Attorney General's Chambers.

Miss Scott has been accepted by the University of Bristol in England to pursue a Master's Degree in legal studies. The two-year accelerated programme will qualify her to study for her Legal Practice Certificate. She has been awarded a three-year bursary.

Oronde Smith was awarded a four-year bursary to study land survey engineering at Georgia Perimeter College, formerly DeKalb College, Atlanta.

Mr. Thompson will also attend Georgia Perimeter. After working in the Planning Department for the past seven years, Mr. Thompson was awarded a four-year bursary. He will pursue a Bachelor's Degree in construction management.

Also receiving a four-year bursary was Mr. Williams, who was recommended for an award by the Police Commissioner.

Mr. Williams has been accepted by Nottingham Trent University in England to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree.

Curtis Smith, who received a one-year bursary, is studying for his Bachelor of Science degree in construction at the Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. He is scheduled to complete his degree next year.

Mr. Wainwright, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering at North Carolina State University, received the first of a two-year bursary. He is scheduled to complete his degree next year.

Mr. Bourne received the second of his two-year bursary for his studies for a Master's degree in electrical engineering. He is attending Georgia Institute of Technology and will complete his degree next year.
