Burglar admits stealing cash, jewellery

A Sandys man yesterday admitted committing a series of break-ins earlier this year and attempting to steal motorcycles.

Steven James O’Neil, 29, pleaded guilty to seven counts of burglary in Supreme Court, all of which took place in January and February of this year, and two counts of attempting to steal motorcycles in connection to incidents on January 30.

Cash, jewellery and electronics were all reportedly taken in the series of raids.

Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves remanded O’Neil into custody, ordering a social inquiry report, a drug assessment and a psychiatric report prior to sentencing.

The matter was one of several that appeared before the Supreme Court during the June arraignments session.

Also appearing in court was Chanel Smith, 25, who denied charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and possessing a bladed article, a machete, in a public place.

All three charges are related to an incident that took place in the Duck’s Puddle area of Hamilton Parish on November 9 last year.

Vanessa Blyden and Dyshantee Crockwell, both 23, were also charged in connection to the altercation, denying charges of assault, causing bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

The matter is set to go to trial next month.

And a Pembroke man denied having unlawful carnal knowledge with a girl under the age of 14 and three counts of sexually exploiting the same girl on December 4 last year.

Neither he, nor the victim, can be identified for legal reasons.

The defendant’s bail was extended until August, with Mr Justice Greaves ordering that he surrender his travel documents in addition to abiding by the bail conditions already set out by the Magistrates’ Court.
