Senators tie Leafs in last-minute thriller

Parity is the continuing theme in the Intermediate League as both games ended in 3-3 tie games. In the first game the short-handed Leafs carried the play for much of the opening frame led by star winger Mikey Daly. After several scoring chances the Leafs opened the scoring with Nicholas Hall ripping a shot past Senators net-minder Henry Taylor after receiving a nice pass from Jaylen Martin. Taylor kept the Senators in the game with several key saves off close in scrambles. The Senators came back to tie the game in the final minute of the first period when Cameron Neal took a pass from Danny Heintzman, streaked down the right side and deposited a shot by Leafs goalie Michael Betteto. Intense action continued into the final period with the Leafs taking the lead on one of the nicest goals of the year. Daly raced behind the Senators net and put a nice pass right on the stick of Matthew Betteto who slid the ball under a sprawling Taylor. Neal once again came back with the equaliser by racing down the right side and burying a shot into the far corner of the net. Leafs went ahead 3-2 with three minutes left in the game when Daly picked up his third point on an unassisted goal after battling hard in front of the Senators goal. The Senators showed why they are one of the top teams by putting relentless pressure on Michael Betteto who kept the Senators at bay with several key saves. The Senators finally tied the game with 45 seconds to go when Tadgh O'Shaugnessy banged home a shot behind Betteto.

Oilers 3 Canadiens 3

The Canadien and Oiler games continue to be great battles between arguably the two fastest teams in the leagues. A good fan turn-out witnessed a see-saw battle from start to finish with the Canadiens opening the scoring when Tyler "Rocket" MacNeil picked up a pass from younger brother Riley "Pocket Rocket", sped through the neutral zone and ripped a hard wrist shot into the far side of the net. The Canadians pushed their lead to two when Conor Lohan finished off a nice three-way passing play flipping a shot over Oilers netminder Beckett Simmons with assists going to Ryan Goddard and Alex Rego. The first period was winding down when Oilers leading scorer Adam Weech picked up a rebound and roofed it into the top of the net off a hard shot by linemate Jordan Fairies. The final frame opened with high paced action and several nice passing plays. The Oilers continued to press the action with Canadians net-minder Khrishna Boodram making several point blank saves to preserve the 2-1 lead. The Oilers finally tied the game after some tough defending by Eddie Dawson and Ethan Philip when Laird Simmons picking up a loose ball in his own end and raced down the length of the rink on a clear breakaway before sending a hard wrist shot into the far side lower corner of the net. Goodard put the Canadians in front once again when he took a nice pass in stride from Jaryd LaPointe near the centre line, did a little tic-tac-toe passing with line mate Rocket MacNeil and pushed a shot under a lunging Simmons. The game clock was winding down when Weech continued his hot hand taking a nice pass from smooth skating Bradley Robinson making a couple of nice moves to weave through a couple of Canadian defenders before sliding a backhand shot in the shortside. The game ended with furious rushes by both teams with net-minders Simmons and Boodram making several good saves.

Exciting youth hockey action continues every Saturday at 1 p.m. behind the Pembroke Community Centre at Admiralty Park.
