The past several days have not been easy for national team cricketer Lionel Cann.Cann is mourning the death of sibling Tracey (Shrimp) Mello who passed away in the UK earlier this week — just days before the start of the ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Divison 3 that bowls off tomorrow on local shores.“I’m dealing with it the best I can and this is the first time I’ve lost a sibling,” Cann said of his family’s loss. “I am just trying to deal with it and keep myself busy because as soon as I stop I start thinking about it (brother’s death) and have my moments.”The body of Cann’s late brother is due to be flown in from the UK over the weekend with the funeral to be held sometime next week. Cann suggested that the funeral could be held either next Tuesday or Friday, dates which will not conflict with his commitments with the national team as they have been set aside as reserve days for the tournament.Cann admits having to play a major tournament with the emotional burden associated with losing a loved one will be no easy feat. But he is determined to get through the ordeal.“I will just have to take that and put it in its place during games,” he said. “Despite what’s happened I must stay focused on the tournament because I’m a cricketer and that’s what I do.”Cann said his late brother would’ve wanted him to go on under the circumstances.“I’m sure he will want me to carry on and help Bermuda get back to the top,” he added. “It’s hurting, but every family goes through it.”Cann first learned of his brother’s death during Monday’s WCL Division 3 warm up between Bermuda and Oman at Sea Breeze Oval.The Warwick player/coach is one of four surviving members of Bermuda’s squad that appeared at the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
