Warwick Acdemy graduate awarded RenRe scholarship
Warwick Academy graduate Erin Vickers has won the 2008 RenaissanceRe Scholarship Award
Erin plans to study law at Bristol University in the UK, was selected from approximately 80 applicants.
Neill A. Currie, president and chief executive officer of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd., said: "We recognise the importance of fostering intellectual curiosity, diligence and independence of thought in the young people of our community.
"Erin embodies these qualities perfectly, as well as demonstrating commitment to the community through her many years of volunteer work. "
The RenaissanceRe Scholarship was created to encourage young Bermudians to pursue excellence in higher education. The scholarship is intended to support four years of tuition, books, and airfare from Bermuda, with no restriction on the field of study.
The recipient of the Scholarship is determined by RenaissanceRe's Scholarship Selection Committee, which is comprised of Bermudian employees from across the organisation.
The committee creates the criteria, reviews applications, shortlists and interviews the candidates before making a final decision.
Erin graduated this year from Warwick Academy and will be receiving an International Baccalaureate Diploma. She has been a high achiever throughout her high school career, excelling in academics but also contributing fully to every facet of school life, from managing the year book to coordinating school events to participating in school productions.
Erin is a proficient musician and dancer, and has contributed many years of volunteer work to WindReach Recreational Village and the Peernet Youth Mentor programme.
