LIFE OF RILEY FOR EXTROS
with Somerset Extros and Robin Hood earning the right to contest the April 2 final at White Hill after deserving wins over the weekend at BAA field.
Extros milked the goal-scoring talent of Stevie Riley to a 5-1 triumph against pretenders Lobster Pot, who had surprised many of the giants along the route to the semifinals.
However, Lobster Pot found Riley at his awe-inspiring best as the striker drilled home four goals, while substitute Radell Tankard added insurance with a tally of his own to close out the scoring. Anthony Smith accounted for the lone strike by Pot.
Riley had given Extros a 2-0 lead in the first half, the first from a header and the second from a freekick outside the box. Pot pulled one back through Smith and were in contention as Extros seemed to tire late in the half.
However, further strikes from Riley in the second half put paid to Pot's hopes of a fightback as the striker completed his hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Robin Hood found unexpected resistance from Exiles, but still managed to emerge on top, spurred by a pair of headers from Des Minors and a single score from Derek Stapley, which offset a Martin Siese score.
Minors gave Hood the lead in the opening minutes with a header before Exiles equalised through Siese to make it 1-1 at the end of the half. A left-foot drive from 20 yards by Stapley and another Minors header settled the match for Hood as their opponents faded in the second half.
Commercial Division Group B make-up matches had Park United and Valley battle tooth and nail for a 3-3 draw.
Fire Service defeated Prison Officers by default when the latter failed to show for the encounter.
George Braithwaite and Dudley and Johnny Lightbourne found the range for Park, while left-winger Chet Trott (two) and Roger Hall paced Valley.
The Alliance Knockout semifinals witnessed both matches being resolved via the penalty spot.
Boulevard and St. George's hooked up in a goal feast as regulation ended with the score deadlocked at 4-4.
Neil Robinson, Mike Tuzo and Norell Hull (two) were the Boulevard marksmen, while Chae and Melvin Simmons, Kuna Smith and Gregg Foggo tallied for the east enders.
The Blazers, however, seized victory 5-3 on penalties.
PHC and Dandy Town similarly were deadlocked, only this time the score was 2-2. Shawn Smith and Kanhai Fray got on the score-sheet for the Zebras, as Ryan Evans scored two for Town.
Town were the more accurate from the spot, winning 4-3.
The Alliance final will also be held at White Hill field on April 2.
