Bermuda's fallen heroes to be remembered

The Remembrance Day Service will take place on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate those who fell in The First and Second World Wars.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Cenotaph on Front Street.

Several marching units, led by the Bermuda Regiment will arrive at the Cenotaph at 10.35 a.m. including the Bermuda Sea Cadets, Salvation Army Band, North Village Band and Somerset Bridge Band.

Governor Sir John Vereker will arrive at 10.52 a.m. and inspect the war veterans.

At 11 a.m., a two-minute silence will be observed, beginning with the firing of a gun and ending with the Last Post.

Wreaths will be laid by a number of dignitaries including Premier Alex Scott, Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons, Mayor of Hamilton, Lawson Mapp and President of the War Veterans Association, Frank Farmer.

Government said that in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony would be held in the Hamilton Cathedral instead.

The decision to cancel the parade will be made at 9 a.m. and broadcast over local radio stations.
