A story from the Senate last week incorrectly identified Bermuda's first female probation officer as Winnifred Simons. In fact, the first female officer was the late Mrs. Eunice Simons.

The death of Mrs. Winifred Simons, Bermuda's first female probation officer, was officially marked in the Senate on Wednesday. Sen. Norma Astwood (Ind.) asked that condolences be sent to her family.

Also remembered was St. George's resident Mr. Vernon Percy Smith, whose work in the area of mental health was cited by Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP).

The arts figured prominently in the Senate's congratulatory messages, beginning with Sen. Swan's mention of a recent play staged by St. George's Secondary School.

Sen. Terry Lister (PLP) singled out Captain Mark Cummings of Sandy's. A Salvation Army minister, Capt. Cummings' sketches of young men aged 18 to 22 were recently displayed in an exhibition entitled "The Boys Of Bermuda.'' Also congratulated by Sen. Lister were brothers Mr. Rudy and Mr. George Bailey, winners of the West End Sailboat Club's Long Distance Comet Race last Monday.
