Cleveland 125 Police 126-4

Police issued an early warning to all Premier Division teams after they upset Cleveland by six wickets at Police Field on Saturday in Combined Knockout play.

After electing to bat first, Cleveland's opening pair of Aaron Adams (25) and Esteth Rahman (14) put on a 32 run partnership to give their team a reasonably good start.

But once Police's R.Perera made the breakthrough to remove the pair, only Peter Philpott (25), Rahman (14) and Wilton Woolridge Jr (13) could offer any real resistance. K.Trott then muscled his way through the remainder of Cleveland's batsmen to return impressive figures of five for 32 in six overs as the visitors were all out for a paltry 125 in 32 overs.

Faced with a modest total, the boys in blue wasted little time getting the required runs and emphatically reached the winning target in just 29 overs.

Dennis Archer led the way for Police with 32 not out, while Terry Thomas contributed 28 and R.Perera 15.

Shaki Darrell was Cleveland's most effective bowler grabbing two for 22 in five overs, while Grant Smith and Gregory Talbot seized a wicket apiece.

Warwick 185

Devonshire Rec.182

Warwick booked their passage into the second round of the Combined Knockout Cup, but they were made to sweat it out before securing a narrow one wicket win over a defiant Devonshire outfit at Southampton Oval on Saturday.

After restricting the visiting team to just 182, Warwick's task seemed simple.

However, after openers Johnny Ball (29) and Dionne Stovell (51) provided their team with a solid start, Devonshire clawed their way back into the match by grabbing wickets at regular intervals to keep the Warwick faithful on edge.

Stovell hammered seven fours and a six during his stay at the crease.

But in the end, the experience of veteran coach Allan Douglas (23) not out and tailender Robert Richardson - who provided the perfect foil - guided Warwick to victory.

Dennis Williams was Devonshire's most successful bowler after returning impressive figures of four for 41 in his allotted ten overs.

Devonshire found the going tough earlier during their innings when at one stage their hosts had them reeling at 49 for four.

However, thanks to a patient knock of 84 from the bat of Anthony Amory, they were able to register a respectable total.

Amory stroked 13 fours and a six in his valuable innings.

Omar Amory (15) and skipper Winston Trott Jr (12) were the other two Devonshire batsmen to reach double figures.

Daniel Stovell was Warwick's top bowler with three for 36, while Lamar Caines managed to seize two scalps, however, they came at a cost of 70 runs.

PHC 94 Flatts 96-7

Flatts defeated PHC by three wickets at White Hill Field on Saturday to ensure a berth in the second round of the Combined Knockout Cup.

But Rahji Edness and Co. didn't have it all their way as PHC made their opponents work hard for the win, despite being skittled out for only 94 runs.

After tearing the PHC batting to threads, Flatts also encountered difficulties out in the middle as their opponents fought to the bitter end.

However, PHC's attempt proved futile as their eastern counterparts, spurred on by Quinn Outerbridge (20) and Derek Wright (25), scampered to victory with three wickets in hand and four overs to spare.

Charles Symonds was PHC's most effective bowler with three for 23, while Cal Waldron seized two for 25 in nine overs.

Having been sent in earlier to bat on a pitch that assisted the bowlers, PHC immediately found the proceedings a bit rough.

Flatts' Nelson Bascome, who took five for 31, breezed through their top order to leave them reeling at six for 62 before Wright - who enjoyed a fine all-round outing - polished off the tail with three for 21.

Symonds also topped the batting for PHC with 27, while Gordon Anglin scored ten.

St. George's advanced into the second round without having to bowl a single delivery as Social Club failed to show up for the match.
