Renegades crushed
Renegades' tale of woe continued with this hammering at the hands of Teachers.
A Freedom Burrows try, converted by Nathan Browne, after two minutes set the tone for the rest of the game.
Renegades' backs were only allowed to sparkle briefly as they were continually denied possession by Hurdle, Cherry and company.
At half-time Teachers had a commanding 40-0 lead and it was obvious it would be more of the same in the second period.
Teachers piled on another 33 points after the break and Renegades' only consolation was a late try by wing Baker.
Teachers scored 11 tries -- three by Browne, two by Robinson and one each by Burrows, Desmond, Hurdle, Harvey, McIntyre and Cupidor. Browne scored the rest with his boot and won the Becks Player of Day.
`Church' Cupidor impressed for Teachers as did new fly-half Chris Naycor.
Police 9 Mariners 21 Mariners emerged victorious from this eagerly awaited clash featuring two teams trying to challenge the superiority of Teachers.
Both sides were missing players who are set to feature in the forthcoming Rugby West Indies tour. Police were without Jon Cassidy and Tom Steinhoff, while their opponents had to make do without Josh McGavern.
It was an even battle for the first 12 minutes with both sides prepared to experiment in the hope of forging a breakthrough. However, a mix-up by Police left Hodgkins in an ideal spot to slot over a penalty and this was followed by a fine wingman's try by Hertenstein.
The conversion was missed but a few minutes later Hodgkins slotted over another penalty to give Mariners an 11-0 lead.
Shortly before half-time Police reduced the deficit when Bird sent a penalty over, but they were up against it again soon after when another Hertenstein score was converted by Hodgkins.
Mariners began the second period with an 18-3 lead, but Police reduced the arrears with two penalties. Suddenly Mariners were under pressure but their opponents couldn't take advantage and with the score 18-9, Hodgkins kicked another penalty.
