alleged to be responsible for the armed robbery of a bank security officer in June.

Jerry Fubler, 21, was charged with robbing Warren Foggo of a bank deposit bag containing $4,471 on the afternoon of June 4 while armed with a firearm.

And he was also charged with using a firearm while committing an indictable offence.

Previously he had only been charged with the armed robbery of Foggo outside the St. George's Telco branch.

Fubler, represented by Mr. Peter Farge, was not required to enter a plea.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Fubler in custody. He was denied bail when he last appeared in court and he did not reapply.

Fubler will reappear in Magistrates' Court on August 27 for a short form preliminary inquiry.

ACCUSED WANTS LONG-FORM INQUIRY CTS The son of Assistant Police Commissioner Alex Forbes has asked for a long-form preliminary inquiry on a charge of unlawful wounding.

Grant R. Forbes, 24, was charged in July with wounding Derek E. Seymour. He appeared in Magistrates' Court on Monday with his lawyer Mr. Kim White.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis set the day-long inquiry for January 11. Forbes is free on $1,000 bail.

NO MEMORY OF DRINKING BEER IN PUBLIC CTS Frederick Lodge told Magistrates' Court yesterday he could not remember taking a swig of beer in public.

But the 49-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence anyway, saying he believed he had a drinking problem and had since sought help at a Christian care centre in Shelly Bay.

Lodge said he was now living at the centre.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said the offence occurred on May 25 on Front Street.

He said Police saw Lodge take a drink from a bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag. They confronted him and found a bottle of beer in the bag.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined him $50.

RIDER DELIBERATLEY `FLOUTED THE LAW' CTS Police caught a St. George's man riding his cycle only hours after he had been disqualified from driving, Magistrates' Court was told this week.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis scolded Almon Hardtman for "deliberate flouting of the law''.

"I'm asking you why you had such contempt for the court by going right out and riding the same day you were taken off the road?'' Mr. Francis said.

"What were you thinking about when you did it?'' Hardtman, 20, had no response.

Mr. Francis fined him $200 and disqualified him for 12 months.

Police stopped Hardtman's motorcycle on Kindley Field Road in St. George's on March 10, 1992, Police prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles told the court.

Earlier on the same day, Hardtman was convicted of speeding at 60 kph, fined $150, and disqualified from driving for six months.

By the time Police learned of the disqualification, Hardtman had left for school in Australia, Sgt. Giles said. A summons had to be issued.

MAN WARNED TO STAY AWAY FROM LIQUOR CTS A Warwick man caught drinking in public has been warned by the Senior Magistrate to stay away from liquor.

Dion Burgess, of Khyber Pass, admitted drinking alcohol in front of the Bermuda Library on February 13.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told Magistrates' Court that a Police Inspector and an officer saw Burgess drinking from a bottle in a brown paper bag. They seized the bottle of beer and arrested Burgess.

Burgess, who has previous convictions for the same offence, said he was under a lot of pressure at the time of the incident.

POLICE DRAGGED INTO FAMILY ARGUMENT CTS Things got worse when Police were dragged into a family argument, Magistrates' Court heard.

Derrick Gibbons pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and two charges of violently resisting officers during arrest.

Gibbons' mother called Police to her home on Cove Valley Lane, St. David's, after her son repeatedly threatened her, said Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting.

The 20-year-old became involved in a heated argument with his mother and her husband. He threatened to kill everyone there, said Insp. Duffy.

A struggle ensued when Police tried to arrest Gibbons. They were eventually able to subdue and arrest him.

Insp. Duffy said Gibbons was undergoing psychiatric treatment and outbursts occurred when he hadn't taken his medication. He had a record of two similar offences.

Gibbons' father told the court his son needed counselling. "He goes from one extreme to the other,'' he said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Gibbons in custody pending a social inquiry and psychiatric report.

NOT GUILTY PLEA TO SPEEDING AT 99-K CTS A 29-year-old Sandy's man yesterday pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to speeding at 99 kph and driving in a dangerous manner.

Gary Benjamin, of Tribe Road Number Two, was accused of travelling at that speed on October 11, last year in a BMW on Marsh Folly Road, Pembroke.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge set the matter down for trial on January 6, next year.

Benjamin is represented by lawyer Mr. Ed Bailey.
