It's been a year since Salon 27 opened its doors on Reid Street but Caroline Wollfe, one of the owners, said it had flown by.

With six staff members the salon has been busy tending to loyal customers and ensuring they are on the cutting edge of hair fashions.

"We wanted a small, intimate environment where people would feel comfortable," Ms Wollfe said of her salon. "It took us a while to find the location but once we did everything seemed to happen very fast. It was a busy time, we got it up and running within three months." She opened the business with Susan Ilhinney last June and said it was her staff that made the salon a success.

"We are very conscientious about staff going abroad for training," she said. "It's important that they keep learning and are shown new techniques.

"Half of our staff are Bermudian, which we think is very important. Kristen Simons, a Bermudian, just came back from training abroad and we are training another assistant to be a stylist.

"We really encourage young Bermudians to go into this profession and to go abroad for training."

Salon 27 offers a range of hair care services and officially goes one on June 24.
