Women's team faces crunch match for Americas crown

Bermuda women's cricketers can claim the inaugural Americas Women's Championship crown if they triumph over Canada in Toronto today.

They will meet the hosts at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, in Ontario, looking to improve on yesterday's defeat against guest outfit Trinidad - a 64-run loss.

Britney Marshall was the pick of the bowlers with three for 20 as Trinidad posted 173 all out off 39.4 overs.

She also top scored with 25 as Bermuda were restricted to 109 all out off 31.1 overs.

But despite the disappointment, vice-captain Linda Mienzer remains confident ahead of tomorrow's crunch clash against Canada.

"Trindad are a good team and bowled a very tight line," she said. "They have been together for a long time but I still felt we had it in us to win.

"We didn't bat well and after our early order we collapsed with too many players not prepared to build an innings. We need to change our mentality and not just swing the bat.

"If we win today we will take the championship and there's no reason, if we keep cool and concentrate. that we can't do so."

She added that the ICC evaluators were present against Trinidad to assess their performance and were impressed with the progress Bermuda were making.
