yesterday of wounding Derrick Seymour with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Grant Forbes, 24, of 86 Railway Trail, Sandys, was convicted of slicing Seymour with a machete outside the Forbes' residence on July 4 last year.

Seymour sustained a six-inch slash to his left shoulder, which required 18 stitches to close.

The one-man, 11-woman jury took just over five hours to reach the verdict, after Pusine Judge, the Hon. Mr. Justice Ground gave them instructions on the law and how it applied to the case.

They were to consider whether Forbes had committed grievous bodily harm with intent, or if it were a case of simple wounding.

Three times they returned to open court with questions regarding the legal definition of grievous bodily harm, and at one point told Mr. Ground they were deadlocked, and unable to reach a majority verdict.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the jury returned with a 9-3 majority verdict of guilty.

Defence lawyer Mr. Kim White asked Mr. Ground to order a social inquiry report before sentencing, to which prosecuting Crown Counsel Mr. Khamisi Tokunbo did not object.

Mr. Ground ordered the report, and set bail at $10,000 plus two like sureties.

Forbes must surrender all travel documents immediately, report to the Somerset Police Station twice a week, and is ordered to stay away from the Airport and Causeway.

Mr. Ground adjourned the matter for sentencing on July 8.
