End of season nerves starting to show
It?s a shame to miss a match when there are so few games left in the season but I had no choice last Friday.
I had some kind of fever that had me pretty much laid up in bed all week. I had no energy and a high temperature and although I got better later in the week there was no way I was going to be able to do anything in the Gillingham game.
In the end I managed a couple of jogs on Friday and Saturday to set me up for Monday and I was pretty happy with my performance in our comeback draw against Barnsley.
We only managed one point out of six over the long weekend but it worked out well for us because the teams chasing us didn?t do much better which still keeps the gap pretty comfortable.
At this stage of the season pressure is building and teams are getting a bit tight and nervous.
It might be affecting us and it is certainly affecting the other teams. I think the team that stays the most calm and can just go back to playing however they played to get them to the top of the table is going to be the team that does best.
The general feeling here is that one more win is going to be enough for us to clinch promotion so there is certainly no celebrating going on here just yet, it?s far too early for anything like that.
We still have achieved nothing and nothing is going to happen until we do.
Maybe the chairman and the board have talked about how to celebrate but for now, there is nothing that has filtered down to us.
At other clubs where we have been promoted, they have put on a big bash at a hotel for players and their families, sometimes it has been an end of season tour or a little team break.
Up at Man City we had a big party at a hotel for all the guys. I took Kyle (Lightbourne) along and we left about 11.30 p.m.. I don?t drink so maybe I didn?t make the most of it ? but there were quite a lot of the lads who were pretty wasted well before I left!
There?s no news of plans for what we are doing at Southend ? and I don?t expect any until we can get that next win.
There are just three games left now and it would be great to get at least one more goal. It?s been fantastic for the team that Freddy Eastwood is banging them in but I would like to get at least one more myself.
If it gets down to that last game, things might get a little desperate. I have never dived in my career but I might have to start then. Look at me for diving anywhere inside the opposition half ? I?ll do whatever it takes!
The away fans should bring scorecards so they can rate my dives out of ten!
The last game should be brilliant. It was great to hear that the Man City fans had block booked 150 seats and it is even better news that they are running this Blues Bermuda Bonanza day.
It will be great to have the gombeys over, it should make for a great atmosphere.
I don?t want my last game to overshadow the great work of all the players this season and I don?t think it will ? it will just be a great party atmosphere at Roots Hall and hopefully we will have something for the fans to celebrate by then.
