Pest Control hope their speed will help against Colts

COMMERCIAL outfit Pest Control wasted no time in preparing for their FA Cup game against holders Devonshire Colts.

Within minutes of the draw players were texting each other about their daunting tie and resolved to do something rare ¿ get some exercise!

Club goalkeeper Stephen Watts said: "We all decided we had better go for a run."

The team hasn't played since their 7-1 Commercial Cup drubbing by MR Onions ten days before Christmas ¿ a fixture where Watts dislocated his arm.

He should be back in action for Tuesday's tie and is likely to be very busy. Colts made history last season in becoming the first First Division side to lift the FA Cup after triumphing over Premier team Boulevard at the National Sports Centre (NSC).

Already Colts coach Ray Jones has been publicly licking his lips at the prospect of taking on a side which has won just one Commercial League game this season.

Watts said: "It may be a case of damage limitation but it is all about having fun on the day. We don't expect anything out of the game."

Pest Control faced Colts last year and lost 5-0. "Anything close to that will be a bonus."

But Watts said Pest Control could have some surprises up their sleeves with some quick strikers and he recalls Colts getting frustrated with their slow progress in the first half of their last encounter .

"We have one of the most youthful teams in the Commercial League. We are definitely in with a shout with the pace we have up front."

Watts said Jones was familiar with Pest Control as he plays for Colts' Commercial outfit who has already faced Pest Control this season.

The draw also saw a reprieve for Commercial League side Key West Rangers when their preliminary round conquerors Somerset Trojans were booted from the competition for fielding an ineligible player against the Commercial side at Somerset Cricket Club last November.

Rangers won the Commercial title two years ago and won the Commercial Cup last season but have faltered this year and lie midtable, sometimes struggling to get enough players to field a full team.

"We had a trio of Brazilian players but they have gone home," said Key West president Peter Rickards.

However strikers Sergio Griffin and Jahmall Mills should back in action after missing them for much of the season through injury.

"Everybody loves a night game so we will have a full squad on Tuesday night, " added Rickards.

Rangers have a decent Cup record ¿ in recent years they have taken Cougars to extra time and beaten Wolves. "We normally have a fairly decent Cup run. I like to think we will beat BAA on Tuesday night ¿ I will go for 2-0. I have a cousin who plays with them ¿ I will have to give him a call to see if he can give me any tips.

"We are very pleased with the draw given the way BAA's season is going ¿ no disrespect to them but we fancy our chances against them."

But Rangers will be up against a mixed BAA side drawn from first First Division, Commercial and Youth players. "We did beat their Commercial team this season, " said Rickards.

BAA president John Doran is also pleased with the draw but said he won't be talking it lightly. "It is a tough game ¿ Key West are no mugs. They are a good side, they have ex-Premier Division players. Yes, we are happy with the draw that we didn't get a Premier team but at the same time you still have to be mindful we are playing a good team."

Meanwhile struggling Commercial outfit Lobster Pot lock horns with Prospect United and Wolves tackle Southampton Rangers.

Dandy Town, who ousted Devonshire Cougars in the last round, will take on First Division Somerset Eagles, last year's beaten finalists Boulevard take on St. George's Colts while Ireland Rangers should come away victorious over a Social Club side that won three successive FA Cup titles in the 1960s.

In the quarter-finals of the Commercial Cup, BAA have been paired with Valley FC, St.George's All-Stars take on Lobster Pot, North Village Rams meet Tuff Dogs while MR Onions 'A' take on Dockyard Falcons.
