O’Brien and Douglas join new Elite League
Former Bermuda internationals George O’Brien and Chris Douglas have signed up to play in the new Elite Player League. The two have been –drafted in by head coach David Moore after the late withdrawals of Irving Romaine, Jim West, Khamel Easton and Tre Govia, who are all injured.Romaine broke his finger in the Belco Cup semi-final between Bailey’s Bay and PHC last weekend, while West is carrying the same –injury that prevented him from playing for Bermuda in Dubai in April.Moore is delighted to have O’Brien and Douglas available.“Chris Douglas and George O’Brien are clearly two of the better cricketers on the Island,” said Moore. “And that’s the whole idea of the EPL, to get the best of the best playing against each other.“The fact that those two have come back is a bonus for the competition and can only benefit the quality of cricket that will be played.”The EPL will begin tomorrow after the Bermuda Cricket Board and National Sports Centre trustees finally reached an agreement for the use of the ground, which BCB president Reggie Pearman called a ‘win-win’ for both sides.“The BCB is extremely pleased that a 'win-win' agreement with the NSC trustees to allow this important series to be played at the stadium has been made,” said Pearman. “We look –forward to seeing the EPL start this weekend.”
